Secret Service detains, questions individual who drove vehicle into barricade near White House

An individual who drove into a barrier near the White House was detained for questioning on Wednesday morning, the U.S. Secret Service said.

Secret Service uniformed police officers immediately apprehended the driver of the vehicle, the spokesperson said. The individual was currently being interviewed.

The spokesperson added that criminal charges were pending, though did not immediately specify what kind.

Various entrances and streets in the area were temporarily closed as investigators worked. The spokesperson said that all closures have since been lifted.

No further details were immediately provided.
